1/9/2024 0 Comments Jiffy stovetop popcorn![]() After about a minute, the kernels of corn started popping and the wonderful aroma started to fill the room. and then I realized she had used a context clue I had given - the word “sizzling.”Įach of them began to hear the sizzle and started shaking their pans. Madilynn grinned and said she thought they must be cooking sausages. When that sound started, I told them to immediately begin gently shaking their pans back and forth. ![]() The first thing they were instructed to do was listen carefully for a sizzling sound. I told the girls to hold their pans over the burners. ![]() After some stovetop safety reminders and directions, I turned on two of the burners. I told them it was their afternoon snack they were going to cook. They girls asked me if there was anything inside the pans. I asked both of them if they had ever seen round flat pans with the metal handles like were on the stove. The first thing I did was remove the package lids from the pans so the girls couldn’t see what they would be cooking on the stove. I decided to let Madilynn, 8, and Jordynn, 10, experience some Jiffy Pop fun and create their own after-school snack. I decided to pick up a couple of packages because I knew I would be keeping my two elementary school-aged nieces after school later that week. I also remember how good it made the kitchen smell and the TV advertisement touting it “As much fun to make as it is to eat!” ![]() I had no idea they still made Jiffy Pop, which a later google search revealed was invented in 1958.Īs a child, I remember standing at the kitchen stove and shaking the Jiffy Pop pan until the large foil dome rose and filled with popcorn. Last week I ran across Jiffy Pop containers on the popcorn aisle in Walmart and smiled. Once in a while I will come across something that evokes fond memories from my childhood. ![]()
